Grateful for:
Catching up with the past second time in the same month, very interesting and symbolic and oh my god, the patterns!! Never change, no matter how much I change. Noted…
Laughing a LOT with reason and without.
Learning several new emotional descriptors. My favorite – “giddy” – I get giddy a lot and I love it :)
Having someone who in some way knows me better than myself point out all the things I do that am oblivious to. Oh my god I am hilarious to watch. This is exactly the root of my biggest attachment to having relationships – it is the only way to truly observe oneself from the side, since it happens through someone else, and to see what needs to change for the overall betterment of my life experience. Fun :)
Apparently last year when I pointed out to my partner at the time that I don’t think he is a thinking type personality but in fact a feeling type who learned to use intellect to protect his feelings from an early age – it has changed his life. Now that he reminded me of it again it planted a seed of doubt in my own mind – waaaaaaait a minute, could this be also true about me? 3 days on, now that I am writing about it, the question is still on my mind, which means there is some truth in it, just got to figure it out…or let go and feel into it?…
Having a delicious raw meal. Haven’t been to a raw restaurant in forever! The best part was the desert which has totally restored my faith into raw cheesecakes after it was shaken by a few sub par experiences in Oz.
It was interesting to observe that I was not at all excited by the menu like I have always been in any raw restaurant. Digging deeper I came up with an interesting revelation: I have either made a lot of those dishes myself or can totally imagine how it would taste like, there was nothing new to discover! Does it mean that now I qualify for having a “discerning” taste in raw cuisine? Wow, never thought I would progress to this stage with anything cooking related, considering I only stared a year ago. Raw cooking fits the bill perfectly though, if I am going to be an expert on something, it has to be totally whacky and out there :)
I know that I usually eat a lot but leaving the restaurant hungry came as a surprise even to me. But my surprise at my hunger was surpassed by my surprise at the convenience store – it was like I was transported back 1.5 years ago to one of the many Japanese convenience stores I used to frequent while living there. The various sushi and rolls, etc were on offer and – halleluja! – soba noodles that none of the Japanese restaurants overseas ever stock. My second favorite dish and one I was deprived of for so long! Soba $5.29; eating soba at 10pm on a bench in the middle of one of Santa Monica’s shopping streets – priceless.
Struggling to choose between Real Food Daily’s nachos and Californian sushi for breakfast we decided to have both. When 2 food lovers get together it is inevitable that sightseeing is going to take a back seat to food sampling. The nachos were indeed amazing, first nachos that made me actually stop and notice and savor them.
Drove around “The Hills” for a glimpse of LA’s interesting architecture and undeniable sense of wealth in the air.
Seeing some spectacular mountains. When the time came to ask google maps for the closest sushi restaurant it ended up being in Malibu 15 minutes away. Well, Malibu it is then. I got to experience first hand the wonder that is “Californian sushi”. Just one example: a mango and tuna on the inside the roll with salmon on the outside?! Ok let’s try this….. Yumm….. :)
Taking a bus from Malibu to home. It was like an unexpected $1.50 tour – a long drive along the ocean coast – looked nice but had absolutely no feeling in it for me. In general, so far I have met some amazing people in USA and it has been a food heaven for me but I not only I don’t have any affinity with this country, I am still experiencing quite a dissonance. So much for “home is where the people are” philosophy – hmmm, not quite…
Being treated to Pinkberry frozen yogurt for dinner – with loads of fresh fruit and berries and granola piled on top and even some gummy bears! Once all the good stuff was eaten I realized the yogurt itself is way too sweet for me (my friend was right about most foods being over sweetened in USA – it’s scary). Maybe next time I can order just the toppings. Still yummy though and I was so excited like a kid in the candy store. My weird trait at play again – treating major news and events matter of fact’ly and getting supremely excited about the smallest things in life.
