Grateful for:
- Exploring this massive Mayan city of Palenque, I think pictures will speak louder than any words would of its glory.
- Finding a leafy frond that is usually up to one’s knee, but this one was taller than me! Dancing under it pretending to be a little fairy and taking pictures.
- Having the TASTIEST coconuts on the planet!! They were so sweet and fragrant, again Vanuatu has to be placed a regrettable second, but indeed Palenque coconuts are the bomb!
- Reading under a tree between the ruins. This is me living my truth of All I Really Want To Do Is Read Good Books In Interesting Places
- Mexican souvenir vendors are so harmless and laid back, such a welcome change from many other developing countries.
- Seeing the first and last real tomb of the trip.
- Taking pictures of a vertical path. I like paths for their aesthetic and symbolic meaning, so finding a vertical one was a boon.
- Going from ancient Mayan ruins to small provincial town seemingly stuck in past century to a big modern city of Villahermosa in one day for a sense of not just space, but indeed TIME travel.
- Finding a quiet hotel amidst the incredible hustle and bustle of Villahermosa hotel area.
- The thanks of the day goes to Google Maps! We were following this main street that crosses a few other streets and then runs along the river thinking all along we were in one part of town, only then to find out thanks to Google maps that we were on the opposite end! It was in fact the same street and the same river, but it curved and they met again on the opposite side of town from where we were meant to be. And the streets we were snaking there way through entire CBD so that you end up crossing them several times and totally can not rely on for orientation!
