Grateful for:
- Finally finding our first independent fruit market (no desire to feed the big supermarket corporations with our tourist dollar) and stocking up. Back seat of the car is covered with fruit and veg – we are ready for an adventure!
- Visiting our first ruin of the trip at Tulum. Although there are tourists all over the place and the air is filled with their screams coming from the beach, the site itself is majestic as can be – on a cliff overlooking the ocean.
- Having the most memorable picnic ever! We stopped to each out supply of fruit and veg and threw a little peace to a nearby iguana to see if it likes some. Before long we were surrounded by no less than 6 iguanas and some birds, each vying for our attention and food. The largest one whom we called the Big Papa even was brave enough to actually approach and eat from the hand! Fun times for us and Tulum’s iguanas’ and a great site for all the passer by tourists.
- Staying in a coastal town recently ravaged by the hurricane to contribute our tourist dollar to the reviving economy.
- Getting the room across the road from the ocean with the full moon reflecting of the water – magic!
- Eating at this “restaurant” – simple this lady’s home with a few tables on the veranda across the road from the ocean. What a great experience, and although the food took a while to get ready and she had to call in her neighbor to help it was well worth the wait, the salad and guacamole were delicious.
- Discovering that authentic Mexican guacamole is NOT what is sold as guacamole in the first world countries, and not just because of the fresh ingredients – no, aside from avocado all the other ingredients are different, it is parsley and tomato not garlic and salt and sour cream or whatever. Doing guacamole at home right from now on!
- Having the first NICE shower since landing, right pressure and right temperature.
- Standing at the end of the pier at night under a full moon looking out into the ocean.
