Did nothing much today except for move into a hotel in town and book the boat trip to see the Halong Bay itself tomorrow morning. One thing worth noting before I move on, is that it is a very interesting experience visiting a place in it’s “off” season – the beaches and cafes are empty, most hotels are empty too, although they still maintain reception staff. Everything in this town seems to have frozen in time and uninhabited as if we have travelled back about 10 years. It is quite a different experience nevertheless and probably even a prefered one for me over the constant hustle and bustle of tourists we experienced in Siem Reap – it sort of allows you to experience the place how it really is, which in case of Halong Bay city means a deserted post communism kind of town, a seaside resort in winter, with heavy development going on everywhere.
